1. su-
2. (enter your root password)
3. yum groupinstall mate-desktop -y
4. log-out of your desktop
5. log-in again and select your user
6. there will be a "sessions" dropdown menu below the password box
7. select MATE
8. complete log-in by typing your password
9. enjoy new environment!
